Strike balance, don’t make Jammu suffer | | | Education Department starting tele-classes for the students of Kashmir region on DD Kashir and ignoring the students of Jammu region has annoyed the denizens of Jammu. They are demanding that the Education Department should come up with a similar arrangement for Jammu region also. No one is objecting to why the classes have been started in Kashmir but people are asking why were students of Jammu ignored? If Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) can take an initiative, what’s stopping Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) from taking the same step? Everyone is aware of the fact that the online classes that were started by different schools and colleges in J&K are not proving that effective due to slow internet speed. The Jammu and Kashmir administration has made it clear to the Supreme Court that the internet speed won’t be increased due to security reasons. It means that students will have to struggle with the online classes till schools and colleges reopen. Authorities can’t leave the students of Jammu region in lurch and just focus on Kashmir. The people at the helm need to strike a balance between the two regions. They cannot have different yardsticks, one for Jammu and another for Kashmir. Jammu regions has been facing discrimination for the past seven decades as the Kashmir centric leaders, who ruled J&K, during all these years had only one-point agenda that was to promote Kashmir. For them Jammu did not exist. J&K’s reorganization has provided a chance to end the injustice with the people of Jammu. Jammuities are hoping that the history won’t be repeated and they will get their due share. In wake of the slow internet speed the only option available with the students of Jammu region is to wait for situation to become normal. The DSEJ seems to be in no mood to work out a mechanism which could benefit students in Jammu region. These students will have to look for ways and means on their own to pursue their studies and the self-study is the only way. But someone needs to asks the people at the helm what are the steps they have taken for the students of Jammu region. Have the students got benefitted from the steps which were taken during the lockdown. Or the announcements which were made just remained confined to papers only. The helmsmen will have to answer many questions after the lockdown is lifted. |
