An open letter to Mr. Haseeb Drabu in response to his article titled "Pandits Pariah, legally "
5/3/2020 10:58:20 PM
Kundan Kashmiri

Before I will like to react over the distorted and dis-informative article, hiding with various facts written by Haseeb Drabu titled with" Pandits as pariah, legally",in which Mr.Drabu has claimed that Kashmiri Pandits were integral part of the jingoistic coverage of constitutional conquest of Kashmir, kissed the hand of Prime Minister Modi Ji in gratitude for revoking special constitutional status of J&K and celebrated its revocation by distributing sweets and with other enjoyments..
I, Kundan Kashmiri, being Kashmiri Pandit and one of the representative of the vitim Kashmiri Pandit community, like to express my dismay and resentment on behalf of whole respected and learned KP, community for using improper and insulting word in title line of the article 'Pandits as pariah",knowing it clearly the word "PARIAH" means outcast, lower cast, hated and disrespected.. it seems a deliberate attempt to provoke and pinch the victim KP community and demonstration of your anger for our support to revoke the article 370 as well as paying our gratitude to Prime Minster for the same, which seems to have not gone well to the people like you . it has also gone beyond our expectation that politician and personality of your stature repute will use such word against such respected, well read and disciplined community people who have mostly remained teachers and mentors to the people like you, like Dr. Farooq Abdullah,Mehabooba Mufti and above all your beloved leader Mufti Sayeed.. We hope this mistake is to be corrected .I will also like to recall the history here which reveals that roots of whole Kashmir community, both Hindus and Muslim are deeply lies in the genes of our Kashmiri Pandit ancestors, then this uncivilized word applies for whole Kashmiri community for which, I differ and dismayed.
As regards role of our then respected Kashmiri Pandit leaders in in respect of state subject law, you have rightly mentioned that KP,s were champions of state subject law to protect the interests of all Kashmiris, whether Hindus or Muslims, in order to safe guard their land and services, with out having any community and communal bias in their mind. But, unfortunately, those our leaders, you have mentioned in your article, , like late Jia lal Kilam, late Shankar lal Koul, late J.L Jalali and others who were the well- wisher of all Kashmiri people and crusaders of state subject law had never visualized at that time that one day whole progeny of Kashmir Pandits would be hounded out, their land rights,Jobs to be snatched and religious places and houses looted, ransacked and burnt.and that too under sinister designs by their own Kashmir people and their leaders.
To recall our minds that land owners were predominantly Kashmiri Pandits and according to old census records there was 1.76 crore Kanals of cultivable agriculture land of which 11.60 acres of land was owned by landlords, in particular Kashmiri Pandits in valley and under state passed land abolition act in 1950,huge land has been snatched from land lords, mostly Kashmiri Pandits ,and transferred to the tillers, who were almost all Kahmiiri Muslims in the valley. This followed state governments agrarian Reforms acts, which abolished ownership of absentee landowners, mostly Kashmiri Pandits and confirmed that ownership of land among tillers, who were all most all Kashmiri Muslims. No protection was given to suffered land owners, the Kashmiri Pandits.
After that J&K reservation act was brought in force in the state to provide reservation in jobs to SC,ST, other socially and educationally back ward classes. No reservation to KP,s as they were already declared community of higher caste.and had to compete only from open merit quota. No protection was given to them in Jobs as well as in medical and engineering seats in the state. Deliberately merit list policy was converted in population policy..
Kashmiri Pandits and Sikhs were in minority in the valley, but minority rights and benefits were given to majority community of Kashmiri Muslims and we have been forfeited from this claim, why this grave injustice and disparity with us.?
During Gul Shah rule in 1986 communal riots were suddenly erupted in valley, particularly in District Anantnagh, dozens of temples and minority houses were burnt and we KP were directly harnessed,. May we know who were responsible for the same.?
More than four lakhs of innocent KP,s were forced to flee from Kashmir by Islamist insurgents supported by local Muslim population during late 1989 -1990. and night of January19, 1990 is widely remembered by Kashmiri Pandits as the tragic "exodus day" every year. May we know, who was behind that conspiracy of creating that dreadful night.?
Who were part of whole mess and mayhem when hundreds of innocent Kashmiri Pandits were killed, and our innocent community daughters and sisters were rapped and chopped for having no fault of them,..who were those people who openly challenged and denied KP,s co--existence in the valley, demanded and demonstrated for accession with Pakistan and Azadi, and chanted uncivilized and intolerable anti--KP slogans.?
,What about ethnic cleansing and forced exodus of our community and why are you silent about gruesome massacred of Wandhama, Nadhi Marg and others. who were killers, why judicial or CBI probe was deliberately avoided ,when your PDP was in helm of affairs and Mufti Mohd. Sayeed was chief Minister. what was reason to label Kashmiri Pandits as mukbir,s, despite of having the well-wishers of all Muslims of the valley.?
Under all these circumstances, undoubtedly ,our role in revoking of special constitutional status of J&K was totally justified and in the over all interest of all Kashmiri,s..
As regards recent domicile law in concerned ,KPs in general are not in favor of implementation of any domicile law in Kashmir, and other concession and demand of re-declaring JK UT as State is opposed by us as that will be a big blunder like Nehru did by imposing article 370 in state. We KP,s are sure that we would get the justices.
I conclude, we want to know from Mr, Haseeb Drabu, if you and your whole community would have been at our place and under such atrocities and injustice, what would have been your reaction.?.
