Immunity paramount to challenge Corona virus | | | Jamwal Mahadeep Singh
Covid-19 global pandemic virus that has challenged the humanity, remind us of a popular catchphrase of 1997 Hindi movie ‘Yaswant” that goes as: “Ek Machhar Sala Aadami Ko Hijda Bana Deta Hai” (A single mosquito can emasculate a man) and in today's situation it fits perfectly, because today every man is feeling hapless and shackled, enforcing the entire populace of the globe to lockdown itself. Corona viruses induce infected cells the formation of double-membrane vesicles (DMVs) in which the replication-transcription complexes (RTCs) are anchored. There are key advisories that individuals can take to fight this pandemic. When it is crucial to maintain hygiene standards such as washing hands, disinfecting them with alcohol sanitizer, wearing a mask and maintaining physical distance, improving immunity is also paramount at this juncture. Scientifically immune is balanced state of multi-cellular organisms that is a protection and defence system to infesting biological bacterium and their harmful effects that prevent the advancing of infection by counteracting neutralizing and clearing bacterium. Simply we can say that Immunity boost our natural defence system. When we are supposed to protect ourselves from the virus from outside, we need to protect ourselves beginning right from within our body by strengthening the immune system. The two main classes of the immune system can be classified as innate immune system, already present in the body, something defenses against infection and made up of barriers that aim to keep viruses, bacteria, parasites, and other foreign particles out of our body or limit their ability to spread and move such as proteins and other molecules circulating in our blood, whereas adaptive immunity is created in response to exposure to a foreign substance or bodies including bacteria, and viruses. We can actively strengthen our immunity and natural defences by looking after ourselves. Dominating this corona intimidation also bank on understanding how to maximize the potential of our sophisticated immune system in the service of human health. Every day we are alive, humans encounter potentially harmful disease causing organisms, or “pathogens”, like bacteria or viruses. Yet most of us are still able to function properly and live life without constantly being sick. That’s because the human body requires a multilayered immune system to keep it running smoothly. Chapter 2 verse 62 & 63 of ‘The holy Bhagvat Gita’ has exemplified Immunity in words “When the intellect is not alert one thought is enough to destroy us, just as your immune system is not strong, one bacterium is enough to cause infection”. An effective immune system must be able to interpret changes in the world around it and respond appropriately. When pathogens do penetrate these defences and seek to live within our bodies and within our cells, they pose many threats, from quiet coexistence to wholesale cell destruction and death. Emerging infectious diseases have as much potential to shape future human history as the epidemics and pandemics like corona virus. Individuals in certain pre-existing illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, cardio vascular disease, and respiratory issues are at a higher risk of having Covid 19 complications as these aggravates with age as the general immunity reduces as we get older. There are many factors that affect the functioning of the immune system. If we refer ‘Ayurveda’ the main force behind our immune system is called Ojas , which refers to the essence of all our bodily tissues and the ultimate resort of both our nutrition and our genetic inborn strength. Ojas sustains and holds a deeper Prana within us. Ojas can be increased by proper food and herbs as well as by natural living on all levels, aligned with a yogic and Ayurvedic lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle involves eating nutritious food, practicing hygienic habits, walking and exercising regularly, maintaining good emotional and mental health and having adequate sleep. Ministry of AYUSH had issued an advisory on various immunity enhancing steps from the time tested approaches of Ayurveda. It being the science of life propagates the gifts of nature in maintaining healthy and happy living. Its extensive knowledge base on preventive care, Ministry of AYUSH recommends self-care guidelines supported by Ayurvedic literature and scientific publications such as: Take Chyavanprash 10gm (1tsf) in the morning. Diabetics should take sugar free Chyavanprash. Drink herbal tea / decoction (Kadha) made from Tulsi (Basil), Dalchini (Cinnamon), Kalimirch (Black pepper), Sounth (Dry Ginger) and Munakka (Raisin) - once or twice a day. Add jaggery (natural sugar) and / or fresh lemon juice as a taste, half tea spoon Haldi (turmeric) powder in 150 ml hot milk - once or twice a day drink warm water throughout the day, daily practice of Yogasana, Pranayama and meditation for at least 30 minutes, spices like Haldi (Turmeric), Jeera (Cumin), Dhaniya (Coriander) and Lahsun (Garlic) are recommended in cooking. In the wake of the Covid 19 outbreak, entire mankind across the globe is suffering. Enhancing the body’s natural defence system (immunity) plays an important role in maintaining optimum health. Honey is increasingly recognized for the medicinal and nutritional properties that made it a staple of Ayurvedic practices in health care are traced back to Vedic times, for its remarkable healing properties. In holy book of Islam (The Verse 69 of Surah Al-Nahl) honey is mentioned as for offering incredible antiseptic, antioxidant and immune boosting properties for our body and health. |
