According to official sources, the officer, who is currently under scanner for allegedly allowing timber smuggling in one of the wildlife sanctuaries in South Kashmir, used his influence to get his transfer orders rescinded. Documents lying with this newspaper reveal that on 2nd of May, the officer was shifted along with two others but he managed to get the order withdrawn on the same day. “Either bribed someone or misused some top officer and got his transfer order withdrawn,” a top wildlife department official told Early Times. The order [63 of 2020 dated 02-05-2020] was issued by Chief Wildlife Warden Jammu and Kashmir but was instantly withdrawn on the same day. “The order 63 of 2020 dated 02-05-2020 with regard to transfer of/posting of Incharge Range Officer is withdrawn with immediate effect,” reads the order [64 of 2020 dated 02-05-2020] issued by Chief Wildlife Warden. The officer was also transferred back in 2018; however he got his transfer order amended within few days. Documents reveal that the officer was shifted to Shopain from Anantnag in 2018. The order [Order No. 189 of 2018 dated 26-12-2018] was also issued by Chief Wildlife Warden but he the officer used his influence and got it amended. “He works at his own and does whatever he wants,” official sources revealed. They revealed that the officer these days was also indirectly trying to influence an enquiry related to felling of trees and theft of timber. The enquiry has again been ordered by Chief Wildlife Warden after taking cognizance of earlier reports of this newspaper. With these developments, the mystery of feeling of trees in wildlife sanctuary was deepened and if probed fairly many officers may turn out timber smugglers, sources claimed Chief Wildlife Warden, Suresh Gupta (IFS) admitted that he revoked the transfer order. “Yes we revoked the transfer order after we received the directions for the same,” he said. Gupta claimed the officers he had transferred were performing duties related to COVID-19. “We don’t want to disturb the system right now but officers with mature stay with be shifted for bringing more transparency,” he added. |
