JAMMU, June 5: Vinod Sharma, who hails from Jammu, has taken over the charge of the Regional Directorate, Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Ministry of Jal Shakti, Northern Himalayan Region Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. Vinod Sharma is a second generation geologist and fourth from village Kootah, in district Kathua. His jurisdiction extends over the whole of Himachal Pradesh State. As Regional Director, he will be overall in-charge for providing scientific inputs for management, exploration, monitoring, assessment augmentation and regulation of ground water resources of Himachal Pradesh. He has published a number of papers to his credit. Sharma brings with him 31years of rich and varied experience of working in all three regions of J&K, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Delhi. Some of the major achievements of Sharma include, development of ground water sources through tube wells in Delhi, at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament House, construction of first successful tube wells in Poonch at Fakir Dara and Rajouri district. He was also instrumental in the construction of first tube well at Drass under adverse conditions, the second coldest place on planet earth. He has provided scientific inputs for the development of ground water for the Indian Army, Air Force and Paramilitary forces.
