Border residents pained as sub-standard material used in construction of bunkers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 4: Crores of rupees made available by the Government of India to the people living in the border areas for the purpose of construction of bunkers seem to have gone down the drain since sub-standard material is being used in the construction process. People living in the villages along Mendhar, Balakot, Mankot, Sabjiyan, Khari Karmada, Shahpur and other border areas of Poonch district have voiced concern that sub-standard material is being used in the construction of bunkers being set up for their safety. The people of border areas said that they gave their land to the government to make safe bunkers for us here, but the people who were given the contract of bunkers from the district administration flouted the norms and used sub-standard material in the same. They said the construction work is incomplete and those who are made have used all the sub standard material in them. In the recent past, the case of bunkers has been hot in Balakot sector and has raised many big questions on the contractors and the department every day. People have made viral on social media by making videos, in which the condition of the bunkers is clearly visible. People have demanded the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory to conduct a CBI inquiry of these bunkers on a big scale.
