Early Times Report

Jammu, Jul y 4: People and politicians are not adhering to the health advisories and have lowered the guard despite COVID-19 cases increasing and death toll zooming past 100 mark in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the initial days of the COVID-19 outbreak and when the lockdown was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sensitization campaigns were taken up and health advisories were issued by the administration. People were asked to adhere to follow the directions in letter and spirit.
In the beginning advisories issued by the government were followed strictly but as the process of unlocking commenced common people stopped adhering to these health advisories.
Early Times has been continuously highlighting the violation of the health advisories by politicians irrespective of their party affiliations. Politicians were found organizing activities in violation of the health advisories. With evidence of videos and photographs, they were found not wearing masks or maintaining social distancing norms in their political activities.
The politicians have to set an example and lead from the front but their irresponsible behavior has set a wrong precedence. “As the economic activities have crawled back common people are seen performing their daily chores without wearing masks or maintaining social distancing. During initial days, people had shunned the practice of handshake and switched to Namaste but once again the old practice of handshaking has returned ”, a citizen said, adding that it appears that everything is normal and there is not any threat of Coronavirus.
A doctor said that such irresponsible behaviour could prove detrimental as the COVID-19 infections have been witnessing a huge spike and there are reports that the peak is yet to come. “It is not the time to lower the guard as Coronavirus is yet to depart from the country and infection has been increasing at an alarming rate. The politicians as well as the common masses should strictly follow the health advisories otherwise it would prove detrimental for the country”, the doctor said.
