Jammu Police arrests driver, helper with poppy straw on outskirts | | | Early times REport
Jammu, July 5: Jammu Police on Sunday arrested a driver and his helper with contraband of poppy straw in Jhajjar Kotli area on Jammu-Srinagar national highway here on city outskirts. Police sources here told that acting on tip off, police party led by Station House Officer, Police Station Jhajjar Kotli, Rajesh Khajuria in assistance of Sub Divisional Police Officer, Nagrota, DySP Mohan Lal Sharma intercepted a truck (PB06N-2355) at Suketar. The truck was on way towards Jammu from Srinagar, said police sources adding that on seeing the police party, the truck driver accelerated the speed but was nabbed after a hit chase. “The police team checked the vehicle and found 11 packets of poppy straw concealed in specially design cavity made between tool box and front portion of truck and one LPG cylinder specially design to smuggle the contraband of poppy straw,” the SDPO said. He said that the total poppy straw recovered from the vehicle weighed around 14.5 kgs and the driver identified as Jasvinder Singh along with his helper Jagpreet Singh, both residents of Qadian, Gurdaspur, Punjab were arrested on the spot. Meanwhile entire operation was supervised by SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil. |
