Progressive fish farming : Min resources, max produce through Biofloc Technology | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 9 : Biofloc Technology encompasses converting largely undigested fish feed proteins, into protein rich fish feed probiotic flocs in the water medium. This technology of intense fish culture has been adopted and put to effective use by Colonel Sunil Singh Sambyal (Retd) by installing a large fish farm at Hunters Ranch, an Organic holistic diverse animal and bird farm owned by Dr Uttam Singh Sambyal at Village Malhori Jagir, Bajalta Jammu wherein 9 PVC tanks supported by iron mesh of the capacity 10000 litres each are placed over ground in an area of approximately 4500 sq feet. These tanks have the capacity to produce about 7.5 tonnes of fish in a span of 6-7 months. This technology, being of Israeli origin is suitable for Indian Major Carp, Cat fish and fresh water Shrimps and is ideal for farmers with small land holdings and limited water resources. The Farm has been visited by senior officials of the Fisheries Department of the UT and have encouraged the entrepreneurship of the veteran. Government subsidy is available for such projects under PMMYS. Col Sambyal expressed his desire to propagate this technology among the people especially among the unemployed youth to enable them to earn livelihood, he is even willing to hold training sessions for the youth and Army veterans who wish to adopt fish farming through Biofloc Technology.
