BANDIPORA, July 9: Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants carried out a “pre-planned” attack on the BJP’s Bandipora leader Waseem Bari and that all the 10 personal security officers (PSOs) deployed for slain leader’s protection have been dismissed from service and arrested as well, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar said Thursday.
IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar visited the site of the incident along with the DIG North Kashmir and SSP Bandipora, examined the CCTV footage at the police station which is quite opposite to the slain BJP leader’s house. Besides, Bari, his father Bashir Ahmed and brother Umar Bari were also killed in the attack that took place yesterday evening at Muslimabad residence of slain in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
While talking to reporters, IGP said that, “We have checked the CCTV footage in presence of army and CRPF officers.
Two militants from Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) have carried the attack. One is a local who has been identified as Abid and another is a foreigner. Local militant Abid fired at the trio from a close range with a pistol while the other one was guiding him,” the IGP said.
He said that, “the trio sustained head injuries and succumbed on the way to the hospital. We will track both the militants soon and eliminate them.”
He said the attack was pre-planned as BJP leader had visited his war and had returned to his home along all then PSOs. “After entering his house, his PSOs had gone to their room and Bari went to his shop where his father and brother were also present,” the IGP said as per
He said all the 10 PSOs of the slain BJP leader have been dismissed from their services and arrested as well. “They are being questioned,” he said.
However, sources said the incident took place at the shop-cum-residence of BJP leader Wasim Bari, earlier district president of the party, where some motorcycle-borne militants attacked the three from a close range with a silencer-fitted revolver, in which the deceased Waseem Bari, his brother Umer Sultan and Bashir Ahmad were injured but succumbed on their way to hospital.
Many condolences poured, and various leaders including State President Ravinder Raina also visited the residence of the deceased BJP Leader and paid condolence with the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) President, J P Nadda in a tweet said that, “ we lost Sheikh Waseem Bari, his father and brother in Bandipora, J&K today in a cowardly attack on them.
My deepest condolences are with the family. The entire party stands with the bereaved family. I assure that their sacrifice will not go in vain, said the tweet of BJP President.
From PMO office, Dr Jitender Singh tweets, over the telephone, PM Narendra Modi enquired about the gruesome killing of Waseem Bari, he also extended condolences to the family of Waseem.
J&K Congress President, Ghulam Ahmad Mir said in a tweet that, INC strongly condemns the killing of BJP leader, his father and brother.
He describes the incident as very painful and shocking. He expressed anguish over this highly deplorable incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the killers.
