BARAMULLA, July 12: Three militants of LeT outfit including Usman of Pakistan killed in an encounter with security forces in Gulshan Abad Reban village of Sopore town on Sunday, said police.
A senior police official said that, there were inputs about the presence of militants in the area, after which a contingent of security forces cordoned off the particular area on Sunday at around 4: 00 am.
A joint team of security forces including Army’s 22 RR, SOG Sopore and 179 BN of CRPF, 177 BN, 92 BTN, Baramulla QRT and Police cordoned off the Reban village, the police official said.
He said that, as the forces intensified the searches, the hiding militants in the area opened fire, resulting in a gunfight.
We had given them warning shots to surrender but there was an exchange of fire between the two sides, and according to our intelligence reports two to three militants including a commander were believed to be trapped inside the house in that very particular area, the official informed.
However sources told ET that in the initial fire fight, one militant was killed after which additional reinforcement was called into combat with the militants.
The house in which militants were hiding was razed to ground by using IED, after which one more militant body was recovered amid searches taking toll to 02. However, the identity of both the slain militants was not yet ascertained, sources informed.
Reports said that, as the house was razed to ground by using IED, soon after this JCB was brought in to remove debris. During removal of debris a third militant body was recovered.
Three AK-47 rifles, incriminating materials, arms and ammunition recovered from the site of encounter, the operation is over now, and the area has been sanitized by the joint team of security forces, said reports.
Meanwhile, Police on Sunday identified one of the three militants killed in Sopore gunfight as Usman and said that he was among the militants who carried out an attack in Model town area of north Kashmir in which a paramilitary CRPF trooper and a civilian were killed.
“Pakistani LeT (militant) Usman killed in encounter. He was involved in a recent attack at Sopore in which one CRPF jawan and one civilian were killed, said police in their official tweet.
