Give OBC status to Jat Community in UT: Manjit Singh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
VIJAYPUR, July 12: Jammu and Kashmir Jat Sabha, President and Former Minister Manjit Singh today appealed to Lt Governor Girish Chander Murmu to give community members a representation in J&K Public Service Commission and in J&K High Court. “The Government should take steps for the upliftment of the Jat Community. This community was never given its right from over 70 years in Jammu and Kashmir whether it is J&K PSC or J&K High Court. We had no members nor do we have any Judge in the J&K,” he alleged. He said that the Government should appoint a Jat Community member in J&K PSC and also a senior practicing lawyer in the J&K High Court as Judge for the empowerment and upliftment of the Jat Community. He said that the Jat Community has been displaced in all three wars with Pakistan whether it was in 1947, 1965 and 1971. He said that the community needs support from the government for their betterment. Referring to the long pending demand, the former minister said that the Government should give them Other Backward Class (OBC) status in Jammu and Kashmir. |
