Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on July 21 while July 24 has been fixed for withdrawal of nomination any time before election process is proceeded within the meeting i.e. 2 PM.
“Whereas, the post of Vice President MC Kishtwar has fallen vacant due to the resignation submitted by VP Firdous Ahmed Mingnoo on June 9-6-2020 and accepted by President MC Kishtwar on 10-6-2020.
Whereas, the post is to be filled for the remainder period by conducting fresh elections for the post of VP in accordance with rules,” read the notification issued by EO MC Kishtwar under section 22 and 28 of Municipal Act 2008 read with SRO 25 Dated 3-2-2005.
Sanjeet Kotwal if elected will be the first member from Hindu community to represent Kishtwar Municipality as Vice President.
It is pertinent to mention that 13 member Kishtwar Municipal Council is headed by NC backed President Riaz Ahmed Zarger while Congress with two councilors provided it the support and settled for the post of Vice President.
As per the agreement, the two Congress councilors will swap the post and accordingly VP MC Kishtwar resigns from the post to pave way for another Congress councilor Sanjeet Kumar Kotwal.
With NC-Congress combine having absolute majority in the Council, Kotwal is all set to sail through, but as per sources, one councilor of National Conference had deserted the party and is likely to file his nomination papers against NC-Congress candidate.
NC and Congress, who did not contest the Local Bodies elections had fielded their proxy candidates along with PDP.
Out of 13 councilors, NC has 7, Congress 2, PDP 2 while BJP and Sajjad Lone’s People’s Party have one each in Kishtwar Municipality.
