SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chander Murmu tendered his resignation on Wednesday, the day marking the first anniversary of Article 370 revocation and splitting of the erstwhile J&K State into two union territories. Early Times has learnt from sources that Murmu submitted his resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind. “ Murmu is already in New Delhi and he may take over as CAG on August 8, the day when Rajiv Mehrishi retires from the central government service,” sources added. Meanwhile, government run All India Radio (AIR) posted on it’s twitter handle that J&K LG has resigned. He was appointed in 2019. It’s in place too mention here that Murmu became the first Lieutenant Governor of union territory of Jammu & Kashmir and R K Mathur was appointed as first Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh soon after the erstwhile J&K State was divided into two UTs. National Conference Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and enquired about the speculations whether Murmu has resigned as LG of Jammu & Kashmir. Omar wanted to know the reason behind the unceremonious ouster of Murmu. Murmu officially took charge as the first L-G of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir on October 31, 2019, under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. Murmu is a 1985 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Gujarat cadre. He also served as the principal secretary to PM Narendra Modi during his tenure as the chief minister of Gujarat. |
