BARAMULLA, Aug 12: A Quick Response Team (QRT) of Indian Army was attacked by suspected militants in Hygam area of this north Kashmir district, while one active militant of LeT was arrested from Hajin area, where police also busted a terror funding module and arrested three persons today.
According to sources, suspected militants attacked on (QRT) of Indian Army on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspected militants attacked an Army vehicle from orchard near Hygam area of this north Kashmir district, in which an army trooper of 15 Gharwal was injured.
The injured army personnel were evacuated to hospital, where his condition is said to be stable. Soon after the attack, the whole area was cordoned off to nab the attackers.
The Army issued a statement regarding the Hygam attack, saying that militants fired at a QRT of Indian Army on Wednesday afternoon.
The QRT was moving from Baramulla towards Gulmarg on the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway near Trumgund Hygam crossing. The army personnel sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Police along with security forces have arrested one active militant of proscribed terror outfit LeT from Hajin area of Bandipora and recovered arms & ammunition from his possession.
Based on credible information, Handwara Police along with Bandipora Police, 13RR, 32RR & 92BN CRPF have arrested one active terrorist identified as Aquib Ahmad Rather @Jana son of Ghulam Mohd Rather resident of Sahipora, Handwara from Hajin area of Bandipora.
Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession. As per police records he was linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT.
Case FIR No 77/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Kralgund and further investigation has been initiated.
Police today issued a statement about terror module funding that said, based on a credible input, Bandipora Police busted a terror funding module of proscribed terror outfit LeT and have arrested three persons. They have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Sheikh resident of Chittibandy Aragam, Mohmad Junaid Wani resident of Nageen Bagh Sopore and Raj Mohammad Khan resident of Lolab Kupwara.
Incriminating materials including cash Rs 4 lakh have been recovered from their possession and Rs 1 lakh in bank accounts have also been seized.
As per investigations, the trio was in touch with their handlers in POK and had received Rs 14 lakh out of which Rs 9 lakh have been distributed by them for financing terror activities in district Bandipora and Kupwara. The said terror module was activated for carrying out terrorist activities in district Bandipora and Kupwara.
Accordingly, case FIR No. 29/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Aragam and further investigation into the matter is going on.
