Rarest of rare case solved | Sopore man gets life imprisonment in murder case, fine of Rs 2 Lakh | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, Sept 19: A 37 year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment on Saturday by a local court for stabbing to death a person in 2010 in Sopore town of this north Kashmir district. Principal Sessions Judge, Baramulla, Sanjay Parihar sentenced an accused (name withheld ) a resident of Brat Kalan Sopore, relying on the statements of prosecution witnesses who had seen the convict with victim Altaf Ahmed Tantray, a resident of Gund Brat Sopore when he stabbed him to death near a local masjid 10 years ago. It had been the prosecution cases that accused committed murder of deceased. According to sources, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lacs on the convict out of which Rs 1.50 lacs will be paid as compensation to the victims family and rest be remitted to accounts of UT of J&K. In default shall undergo sentence of hard labour until he is satisfied with fine amounts. The victim was stabbed to death on 28 August 2010 after the convict and the victim entered into an argument over a matter involving a female. Police accordingly had registered an FIR vide number 436/2010 under section 302, 109 RPC, said sources while quoting the court order. According to them, the Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Nisar Ahmed who is presently posted as SHO Pattan filed challan against the convict, his brother and father. The court acquitted the father and the brother of the convict citing insufficient evidence. At least 21 witnesses recorded their statements in 2 sitting trials. The convict is already languishing in jail since his arrest in 2010 after the crime. Sources also said that it was a rarest of rare case and the matter has been heard today on quantum by Principal Sessions Judge, Baramulla, Sanjay Parihar. |
