JAMMU, Sept 21: The Jammu and Kashmir government constituted a committee for deciding complaints pertaining to the encroachment of forest land and property. As per the order, the committee will have five officials which include Principal Secretary to the Government, Revenue Department as Chairman, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Department of Forest, Ecology & Environment as Member Secretary and Principal Chief Conservator of Forest J&K, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir as members. “The committee must ensure the creation of a dedicated website of the committee. Also, the committee will decide all complaints and alleged encroachers, within one month of the receipt of the complaint, extendable to two months for reasons to be recorded”, the order reads. It added, “The committee will also serve notice to complaints at the addresses disclosed in the complaint and on the encroacher at all encroached land and property. The notice shall be additionally posted on the website to be maintained by the committee which shall be deemed to be sufficient notice to the parties”. The order further reads, “To accord hearing by the committee using the e-mode, for expediency, the facility of video calls for conducting the hearing may be utilized. To communicate proceedings and orders passed by the committee to the parties and posting these on its website. Also, the committee will ensure widespread publicity of the constitution of this committee and its activities”. Further, the chairman of the committee shall take the necessary step to ensure the smooth functioning of the committee and make available provisions like necessary infrastructure, machinery, computers support staff, etc. for the efficient working of the committee.
