JAMMU, Sept 27: One week long faculty Development Program on “Recent Research Advances in Electrical Engineering (RRAEE 2020) organized by Govt. College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu, commenced today on Digital Platform. The programme is being coordinated by the Electrical Engineering Department of GCET in collaboration with Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department UIET, Punjab University Chandigarh under the twinning arrangement of TEQIP-III . Over 140 participants from different parts of the country have registered for this Program. There will be ten sessions in the FDP and expert lectures will be delivered by eminent faculties from reputed institutes like IITs, NITs etc. The programme would facilitate the faculty & researchers, both from academia as well as industry involved in research work in the electrical engineering domain, to have valuable discussions to make the outcomes more realistic. The focused areas of the programme are SCADA, Electrical Vehicles, Renewable Energy, Smart Grids, IOT applications and energy management. Dr. Sameru Sharma, Principal GCET, Jammu in her opening remarks gave an overview on the energy scenario of India and presented a brief about the latest technological happenings in the power sector. She said that renewable energy is the need of the hour which is going to come up in a big way to meet our future energy requirements and emphasized the participants to carry on their research on renewables and their integration with the grid. Prof. Ajat Shatru Arora, SLIET Longowal, Punjab in his keynote address highlighted the potential areas emerging in the field of Electrical Engineering. He talked about, Smart grid, impact of renewable energy in Power System Operation, IoT applications in Power System and stressed upon the need for developing efficient energy management systems. He added that despite such a huge generation capacity, the people in many parts of the country still face frequent power cuts. Prof. Sarat Kumar Sahoo, Biju Patnaik University Odisha explained the role of power electronics in PV integrated smart grid with real time hardware implementations and explained the role of IoT and Multi level Inverters in future power systems. Prof. Swastik Gupta, SMVDU Jammu delivered the talk on Enterprise Asset Management using IoT for Power companies and adaption of state of the art in industrial automation by power companies. The event started with a welcome address by Course Coordinator Dr. Y P Verma, UIET Chandigarh followed by the presentation on the theme of the FDP by Dr. Vivek Pahwa, UIET Chandigarh. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr Rajiv Bali Head Electrical Engineering Department, GCET Jammu.
