Jammu, Oct 2: People in Kishtwar district have joined hands to defeat the COVID 19 amid crumbling health system and they are coming to the rescue of people who were in need during the ongoing testing times when whole world has come to the knees due to COVID 19 pandemic. As per details available with Early Times some group of local employees, businessmen, NGOs in Kishtwar District had started preparing themselves for any challenge to be posed by the COVID 19 since Kishtwar and adjoining Doda District has witnessed major spike in COVID 19 cases in last one month. Besides medicines, people and local NGOs had purchased around two dozen Oxygen Concentrators which is the basic requirement for the COVID 19 patients since the District Hospital Kishtwar along with majority of the hospitals in Jammu Division has failed to cater the need of the people and people are dying in absence of better health facilities while at the same time, District Hospital Kishtwar even lacks basic facilities like non functional of oxygen plant in the hospital. “We have a group of 20/25 friends and we voluntarily collected some money within themselves and purchased around half dozen oxygen concentrators, some oxygen cylinders and medicines for the needy people” said Jaffer Kotwal adding that they are providing both oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators to the needy patients who had acute symptoms of COVID 19 and were in dire need of oxygen. “Other people must come forward— this is the need of the hour and people should join hands to save the lives” said Kotwal hoping that more people will join the campaign. “In fact Mohallah wise committees must be framed to chalk out the strategy- it is the responsibility of all to come forward at the time when health system in Kishtwar District offered nothing” said Burhan Mir, NGO ABBABEEL volunteer. “We are running Eco vehicle ambulances and after District Hospital authorities denied ambulances to needy and COVID 19 patients- they left with no option other than to modify our own ones” said Umar Farooq, another ABBABEEL volunteer. He said that had the hospital authorities provided the ambulance to the COVID patients, the two renowned female teachers from Kishtwar would have been alive today. Both the sisters died in an accident near Qazigund. Beside NGOs local councillor from Kishtwar Municipality Sajjad Najjar had also purchased some oxygen concentrators for the needy people hoping that more people will come forward at the time when COVID 19 is gaining strong foot hold in the District and its neighbouring areas for help. Burhan Dar a local volunteer said that people should understand the gravity of situation and must donate generously for the cause. He said that there is immediate need for purchasing of big size ambulance. “Some people had agreed to help us in purchasing multi task ambulance so that we can shift multiple patients in one go— let’s keep our hope alive as people are showing overwhelming response towards the call given by the NGOs working in the field of health sector” said Burhan Mir. He said that some valley based NGOs are also ready to help the needy patients to be shifted to valley based hospitals. “Everyone is focusing towards urban areas- what about the rural areas where there is no connectivity- no electricity- no health facilities- non availability of even a doctor— in simple words - the people belongs to rural areas of Marwah, Warwan, Dachhan, Padder, Bhunzwah and other far flung areas of Kishtwar District had been left at the mercy of the God” people rued added that they are hopeful that government will learn a lesson from its failure and will come up with concrete solution for upliftment of crumbling health system in UT of J&K.
