KVK-Leh offers expertise, Polysheet to Farmers’ club | | | Early times Report
Jammu, Oct 29: Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) organized awareness cum input distribution programme for the farmers and a group of farm women at Farkha Yokma, Sakti in Leh district. The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Feroz-Din-Sheikh, Programme Coordinator at KVK-Leh. While interacting with the group of farm women, Dr. Parveen Kumar Subject Matter Specialist (Agri. Extension) at KVK-Leh briefed them about the various agricultural production strategies in this cold arid region by which they can augment their income and at the same time ensure food as well as nutritional security. As the whole of Ladakh region is to be made organic by 2025, the group also expressed its interest in production of vermi compost. Dr. Kumar also sensitized them about the vermi composting production process. Dr. Parveen also highlighted the importance of collective efforts like self help groups, commodity interest groups, and farmer clubs in empowerment of the farmers. He also discussed with them about the new agricultural laws enacted by the government recently and how these will benefit the farming community. On this occasion, Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh also provided Polysheet for protected cultivation of vegetables in trenches during the winter. The farm women appreciated the efforts of KVK-Leh and also asked for more cooperation in future. |
