Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Lidder Forest Division, Dr Mehraj told Early Times that anti-encroachment drive was kick started in view of the recent directions by the Hon’ble Court and the department will continue this drive to remove all encroachments in and around Pahalgam. “120 Kanals of forest land was retrieved back in Lidroo block of Pahalgam range and two small structures raised illegally on forest land were also demolished,” he said. The team, he said, was led by Range Officer Pahalgam Altaf Ahmad. “At most places the encrochers had fenced the land by bribed wire and wood. Our team removed the fencing and took possession of the land,” he said. The Department has also served notices to around 300 encrochers who have allegedly encroached the forest land.
