Seems India is world’s largest democracy only on papers now: Mehbooba Mufti | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 5: Claiming that her party members were detained last week during a peaceful protest against new land laws in J&K after they refused to sign an alleged ‘dictatorial' affidavit that terms dissent as anti-national, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that it ‘seems like India is the world’s largest democracy only on paper now’. "In which democracy is the right to peacefully protest an ‘anti national’ activity? PDP members detained last week for attempting to peacefully protest against news land laws in J&K today refused to sign a dictatorial affidavit that terms dissent as anti national,” Ms Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter. Ms Mufti also posted picture of an alleged affidavit which her party workers refused to sign. The paragraphs of the affidavit which the PDP president had highlighted read, “That we will not indulge myself in any unlawful anti-national activities.” “That in case if we will be found again indulging myself in any unlawful anti-national activities then I shall be liable to face any action as per law,” it added. |
