GDC Sidhra organises online workshop on Media Literacy | | | Early times Report
Jammu, Nov 29: An online workshop entitled “Empowering Citizens Against Fake News on Media Literacy” for teachers and students as a part of media literacy campaign was held in Government Degree College, Sidhra with a view to fight against misinformation and empowering citizens in India through news and information-literacy training. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Archana Kumari, Assistant Professor Mass Media and Communication, Central University of Jammu and hosted by Government Degree College Sidhra under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Monika Sharma, Principal of the College. Faculty members and students of various Government Degree Colleges participated in the workshop. The media literacy campaign as a part of which the session was held, was conducted under “Factshala” which is a news and information literacy programme launched in India by interviews in collaboration with dataL EADS with support from Google.org and Google News Initiatives to generate awareness towards fake news. The workshop covered the topics like the power of information, changing information landscapes; the causes of the proneness of misinformation in the online content ; the consequences of fake information circulation; and the ways and means through which it can be identified and prevented.
