RAJOURI, Dec 7: With an aim to eradicate the menace of drug abuse in the district, the Social Welfare Department Rajouri on Monday organized a Drug de-addiction sensitization programme here at ICDS Project Rajouri. District Social Welfare Officer besides various members spoke on the occasion and deliberated on the ill-effects of drug abuse and highlighted the need of taking preventive measures to eradicate the menace of drugs and other social evils in the district. The organisers said the main aim of the programme was to spread awareness amongst the student community to take necessary steps for curbing the drug menace. While speaking on the occasion, the DSWO said that drug addiction and substance abuse affects the capabilities and energies of the youth and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to work together and eradicate the menace, which is growing at an alarming rate. He added that besides de-addicting the drug users, there is a dire need to address the major reasons which provoke the youth to take drugs. Drug abuse makes the youth dependent, incapable to face the challenges and finally takes their life. District Social Welfare Officer, Wakeel Ahmed Bhatt, District Information Officer, Narinder Kumar, Child Development Project Officer, Gaurav, Legal cum Probation Officer JJB, Shivangi Kant besides the field functionaries of the ICDS including Supervisors, Anganwadi workers and helpers were present on the occasion.
