EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 7: Jammu & Kashmir will be power surplus in the coming years, said Bharatiya Janata Party president Ravinder Raina while addressing party rallies in Debak (Sundarbani), Syote (Sary) and Kalakot. Addressing the public meetings in support of BJP candidate Raina said, under the power sector, the tone has been set for the upcoming 850 MW new joint venture Ratle project. The project is expected to intensify the existing power generation capacity in the region. This has only been possible under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is committed to the cause of development of Jammu & Kashmir. In totality, the upcoming power projects will generate 6298 MW at the cost or Rs 54,593 Crore, enhancing the power generation capacity. Taking a plunge at the previous state governments, Ravinder Raina said, it almost took 40 years to reach to 3000 MW power generation, but now the Modi Government will ensure the target of next 3000 MW is achieved in the coming four years’ time. The Srinagar Leh Power transmission line and 220KV Srinagar-Alusteng-Drass-Kargil Lehpower transmission system will also be an important development initiative carried out in Jammu & Kashmir, he added. He said smart electricity meters will be installed expeditiously in both Jammu and Srinagar. This would bring transparency in billing and reduce power losses. Ravinder Raina further said, Jammu & Kashmir was made to live in “dark” all through. It was just the “dynasts”, who were lustrous. But now, every resident of Jammu-Kashmir is enlightened and will vote for development.
