Revoke anti-farmers laws without any further delay: JK Kissan Congress, threatens mass agitation | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 30: J&K Kissan Congress demanded repealing of three anti-farmers laws announced by the BJP led Government at the Centre, threatening mass agitation if anti-farmers laws are not abrogated immediately. JK Kissan Congress held a meeting at Jammu under the chairmanship of Gharu Ram Choudhary, former minister and Chairman, JK Kisan Congress. The meeting was presided over by Gursimran Singh Mand, National Joint Coordinator of All India Congress Committee. Gharu Ram said that the farmers across the country have been protesting for the last 100 days against the three farm laws and all the talking sessions so far have failed due to the ego of the BJP regime. He said that the BJP led government is yet to take positive steps in favour of farmers who have been surrounding the National capital Delhi borders for more than 30 days amid bone chilling winter. Farmers being the most important element for the country, Gharu Ram said that the farmers have been facing the apathy of the BJP government. “They work for the country as pillars do. Their issues are the issues for all,” he added. The first Bill will bypass government-regulated markets (known locally as Mandis) and sell produce directly to private buyers. But it does not give any statutory backing to MSP, the former minister said. He said that farmers have everything to do with the MSP, a price at which they sell their produce, there is not even a mention of either "MSP" or "Procurement" in the said bill and It will eventually end the MSP-based procurement system. Gursimran Singh Mand said that the Bills will force farmers to enter into contracts with private companies and sell their produce across state borders. But the farmers in contract farming arrangements will be the weaker players. He said that the Farm Bills allows traders and private companies to stockpile food. This is a shift away from prohibitions against hoarding, which could make it easier for traders to take advantage of rising prices.
