After attachment of property, Abdullahs ‘soften’ stand | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 6: The attachment of the property of former Chief Minister and National Conference, patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah has seemingly softened him, and his son and successor, Omar Abdullah, who sounds a changed man atleast on his favorite social media platoform –Twitter. While Dr Farooq has largely been maintaining silence since the day his property was attached by the Enforcement Directorate, Omar not only avoids targeting the Bharatiya Janta Party but has now started to indirectly support for the BJP. In one such recent incident, Omar locked horns with BJP’s betenoire and Samajwadi Party, Chief, Akhilesh Yadav, who has questioned the vaccine against Covid-19 as prepared by the Modi government. “I am not going to get vaccinated for now. How can I trust BJP's vaccine, when our government will be formed everyone will get free vaccine. We cannot take BJP's vaccine,” Samajwadi Party chief said. Omer sharply reacted to the remark saying that he was ready to get vaccinated. “I don’t know about anyone else but when my turn comes I’ll happily roll up my sleeve & get a COVID vaccine. This damn virus has been far too disruptive and if a vaccine helps bring about a semblance of normalcy after all the chaos then sign me up,” Omar said on the social media. “The more people that get vaccinated the better it will be for the country and the economy. No vaccine belongs to any political party, they belong to humanity and the sooner we get vulnerable people vaccinated the better,” Omar added. Dr Farooq, on the other hand, even avoided commenting over the recent encounter in Hokersar area of Srinagar and instead, the NC asked Member Parliament form south Kashmir Hasnain Masoodi to discuss the issue with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Sources said the father-son duo want to “avoid any further confrontation with the BJP.” It is pertinent to mention that on December 19 the ED attached assets worth Rs 11.86 crore of Dr Farooq Abdullah and others in connection with its money laundering probe linked to alleged financial irregularities in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. While the book value of these attached properties is Rs 11.86 crore, their market value is about Rs 60-70 crore, officials added. The 83-year-old NC patron had been questioned by the ED in this case a number of times, the last being in October at Srinagar. |
