From past few days, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been closed as there was a damage of Bailey bridge at Kelamorh due to which the loaded vehicle of vegetable and other edible items have got stranded from the other side of highway. Though the construction of Bailey bridge is nearing completion at Kela Morh after which it is expected that the vehicle will start plying on the bridge on both the sides of highway. Scores of consumers have complained that the unscrupulous shopkeepers taking undue advantage of the highway closure were resorting to profiteering. It is all because of the concerned authorities who are not paying due attention towards the problems that are being faced by the commoners, they must take strict action against profiteers. Sijad Ahmad from Qamarwari Srinagar said that, "I purchased mutton for Rs 550 a kg. This is open loot too in these wintering months". There are several inhabitants of Srinagar city and people from rural areas of Kashmir division that have complained that the rates of vegetable and fruits have become unaffordable. Potatoes are being sold at Rs 60 per kg, while Tomato has also gone up to Rs 60, and a common man cannot think of other items like of Poultry, egg tray is being sold at Rs 130-140 at many places in Kashmir. Another consumer from Soura area said that, earlier there were CAPD officials and its enforcement wings that were seen on checking the authorized rate lists that have been issued by the department concerned. The consumers said there might be a market checking squad but hardly any action is being taken, if the action will be taken against the erring shopkeepers the prices will automatically go down, but the checking squad is hardly bothered about the common masses. "The higher officials of CAPD and other agencies are requested to intervene into the matter and impose fine on the erring shopkeepers so that nobody will violate the norms in terms of rate lists in future, locals residents of Srinagar told early times. |
