RAMBAN, Feb 1 - In order to develop an effective Decision Support System for Disaster Management for Ramban, Deputy Commissions, Ramban, Mussarat Islam, held a detailed discussion with the experts engaged under JTFRO (Jhelum Tawi Fllod Recovery Project) in a meeting, here today. Consultants from M/S RMSI will develop two modules comprising Hazard Monitoring and Emergency Response and Damage Assessment including mobile-based applications to successfully operate the systems to tackle disaster-like situations. The Deputy Commissioner suggested various measures which help to develop a vibrant Decision Support System for disaster management in the district. Dr. Murali Krishna, lead Consultant from M/S RMSI informed that Ramban is the first district in the country where software solutions for disaster management are being developed. The role of all the departments and other stakeholders was also discussed. Officers from the Police, Fire & Emergency Services and State Disaster Response Force, who were also presented on the occasion, highlighted various issues and problems which they countenance while tackling emergencies and rescue operations in a district like Ramban which is prone to accidents and landslides. Keeping in view the difficult topography of the district, they also apprised M/S RMSI about the nature of challenges and events which may arise in future. The issues related to infrastructure and human resource, mechanism for how and whom to report an incident, coordination between different departments which is required to deal with disaster-like situations are also discussed threadbare. The meeting was also attended by Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Assistant Director, Food & Civil Supplies. |
