Public support vital for restoring dignity, honour : Mehbooba | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 28: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has on Saturday urged the people to stand up, decide and chose their sides for a meaningful struggle towards restoration of honor and dignity of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a day-long party workers convention of District Budgam, Mehbooba said she will not budge or shy away from speaking up for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “I have decided for myself and taken a conscious decision to speak up for my people, struggle for their dignity and rights and advocate peace and reconciliation as a means to sustainable peace not only in J&K but whole of the subcontinent. I have decided not to accept the betrayal and humiliation. I know the road is full of challenges and would test me every minute. But as a citizen of J&K and the leader of PDP, this is expected of me and I assure you that the party would make no compromise on the agenda of Mufti Sahab and won’t leave our people in lurch, whatever pressures be,” she said. Cautioning that this struggle will be a long and arduous one, Mehbooba said this road is full of challenges and not for faint hearted. She asked for support of the public of J&K saying she cannot do it all alone. “I need your constant support to get back what was unjustly snatched away from us. We knew the difficulties and challenges ahead and we took a conscious decision to stand up and fight for the cause of people”, she said. Reminding powers hell-bent on damaging PDP, Mehbooba said People’s Democratic Party is a movement, inheritance of those who have sacrificed their lives for the restoration of dignity, peace and prosperity in J&K and thus cannot be forced into silence by coercion. “The central government has used every means and resources to demolish me and my party but here we stand tall with head high as we have nothing to hide or regret about” she added. Batting for cordial and peaceful relations between India and Pakistan, the former Chief Minister said it was high time that leadership of the two countries must sit across the table and resolve all the pending issues with J&K being the focus for durable peace. “Confrontations and disputes are natural. But history has proved us that dialogue is the only way out to resolve everything”, she said adding that both the sides can no more bear the burden of hostilities and that people of J&K who has been the worst hit by the hostilities of the two nations are yearning for peace founded in J&K being made a bridge of friendship,” she added.
