Education institutions celebrate World Earth Day

Jammu, Apr 22: Education Institutes today celebrated World Earth Day by organising various activities.
Students and staff of MV International School celebrated 22nd April as the ‘World Earth Day’ virtually. This is special celebration was held ONLINE and it carried a clear message from students of classes 4th to 8th that it is not just a day to celebrate, but it is a mission for all of us to spread the message to humanity about the need of saving our lovely planet Earth. Students made beautiful paintings and informative posters to spread their message loud and clear. Even when they were all locked at their homes, the spirit of celebration was too high.
Bharat Scouts and guides Udhampur organized online Painting and Esaay competition on the topic Earth day under the guidance District organising Commissioner (D.O.C ) Bharat Scouts and guides Udhampur Rakesh Singh.
Scout students displayed their talent of painting on occasion of Earth day and also spread message through their painting to save earth by keeping it green and clean and focus on sustainable development of forest cover. Rakesh Singh exhorted all the scout students through webinar to create awareness campaign in their society to save natural resources through their optimum use and avoid their unnecessary wastage to save our renewable and non- renewable resources ". Scout students taken online pledge to work for increase green cover of earth and preserve environment through every possible way.
GDC Purmandal Under the headship of prof. Shahima Akhter carried out plantation drive to celebrate Earth Day. The first Sapling of the drive was planted by Prof. Seema Mir Principal of the College.
Government Degree College Marh, under the patronage of Principal Prof. Aekta Gupta, celebrated ‘World Earth Day’ by organizing different activities in three sessions, under the banner of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahostav’.
The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. Shakun Sharma (Sociology).
Prof. Aekta Gupta, Principal, in her keynote address highlighted the importance of organizing such events for the protection and conservation of environment.
In the Ist session, an activity ‘Campus Bird Count’ was organized by Prof. Sachin Kumar and NSS PO, Prof. Satish Kumar, along with NSS volunteers. During one hour birding, 25 species around the campus were identified and participants were also guided how to identify birds and to take field notes.
In the 2nd session, an online lecture on ‘Role of Civil Society in Sustainable Development’ was organized by Prof. Anjana Chib (EVS). In the 3rd session, an online Intra-college Poster & Slogan competition was organized under the supervision of Prof. Asha Kumari (Geography). Students from different streams of the college participated in this event. All the technical support has been provided by Dr. Saqib Bashir.
Government Degree College, Kishtwar celebrated ‘World Earth Day' by organizing a seminar cum exhibition on the theme “RESTORE OUR PLANET" under the supervision of Dr. Sehrish Gazal (HOD Environmental Sciences).
Principal, GDC Kishtwar, Prof. Anirudh Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
Proceedings of the event were presented by Dr. Sehrish Gazal. Professor Natasha Choudhary highlighted various environmental issues and problems. Students namely Kajal Sagotra, Simran Devi, Preety Devi and Palvi Rana also spoke on the theme of the earth day. Amol Sudarshan (student sem 3rd) kept audience captive with her beautiful Poem.
An Exhibition based on the theme “Best out of waste” was organized by the Environmental Sciences
Prof. Sarita Parihar, Prof. Romana Akthar and Prof. Yaseen Sirwal adjudged the event and Toufeeq Umar, Samiksha Devi, Kajal Sadotra, Shilpa Devi and Ruksana of sem 3rd Bagged Ist, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th prize.
Govt Degree College Nagrota organized a webinar on Earth Day. The theme for the year 2021 is ”Restoring Earth”.
Prof Harmeet Kour, HoD Panjabi, welcomed the audience and introduced about the theme of the event. Principal of the College, Dr Attar Singh Kotwal while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of celebrating Earth Day.
Dr Tarsem Lal, HoD Geography, GDC Nagrota delivered a lecture on different ways of restoring earth. A documentary video was also shown to the students on how to reduce earth pollution and make it worth living. Prof Anjali Mahajan, HoD English, delivered vote of thanks on the occasion. This activity was part of the ongoing “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”.
