Pleasant weather to continue in Kashmir, max temp settled above normal
4/26/2021 10:46:55 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 26: People continued to enjoy pleasant weather even as the maximum temperature improved and settled several degrees above normal due to bright sunshine in the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley on Monday.
Meanwhile, the night temperature improved though settled several degrees below normal across Kashmir valley.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that the weather mainly remains dry during the next 24 hours in Kashmir. “No large change in weather conditions is expected as skies would remain clear till May 3 in the valley,” he added.
Much to the delight of tourists, bright sunshine greeted world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, resulting in major improvement in the maximum temperature, which settled about 2 degrees above normal. The ski resort, where the upper reaches are still covered under several feet of snow, was the only place in the valley where the night temperature settled above normal. Against 1.6 degree recorded on Sunday, the night temperature at Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, settled at 4.5 degree.
Very few tourists were seen enjoying different snow related activities on a sunny day at Gulmarg, after witnessing a bumper tourist season this winter. The tourist footfall in the ski resort started to pickup in November due to early snowfall and the rush of the tourists and local visitors continued throughout the winter with hotels fully booked till mid April. “The arrival of tourists has witnessed a steep decline after witnessing huge influx of visitors in the ski resort earlier this year. Many booking for later this month and early next month have been cancelled due to rise in COVID-19 cases,” a hotelier told UNI over the phone.
He said after a bumper winter season, the people associated with tourism were hopeful that the upcoming summer season will also be good for the business which took heavy losses during curbs post abrogation of special status of J&K in 2019 and Covid lockdown in 2020.
After witnessing below normal night temperature, people woke up to a sunny Monday morning in the summer capital, Srinagar. The weather remained pleasant throughout the day in the city, where maximum temperature improved and for the first time after several weeks settled above normal. The night temperature in the city improved 3 degree from Sunday and settled at 7.6 degree, which is about 2 degree below normal.
The spokesperson said the skies would be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 26 degrees and 8 degrees, respectively.
The mercury during the night at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, improved about 2 degree from Sunday and settled at 2.1 degree, which is over 2 degree below normal. The weather at the resort remained pleasant with the maximum temperature settling over 2 degree above normal.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag improved and settled at 5.6 degrees, 4.2 degrees and 6.1 degrees, respectively.
