JAMMU, May 10: The market checking squads of the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) conducted inspection of 807 traders dealing with fruits, vegetables, kiryana, cheese, milk, and packaged goods before the imposition of lock down period. The squads detected 171 traders involved in selling of packaged goods without mandatory declaration as required under Packaged Commodity Rules 2011, delivering less in weighment/ volume in commercial transactions, overcharging against MRP/ rates notified by competent authority. As a result the department challaned erring traders under relevant provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 read with Packaged Commodity Rules, 2011 and realized a penalty of Rs 5 lakh from erring traders in different parts of Jammu province. To ensure accuracy in Weighment/ Volume, the department further standardized 3,510 Weighing and Measuring instruments and realized a revenue of Rs 4.78 lakh.
