Transfers in G&M Deptt vindicates Forum’s stand: EAF | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 24: Environment Awareness Forum (EAF) has stated that the recent transfer of the District Mineral Officers in the Department of Geology and Mining (G&M) once again vindicated the stand of the Forum. President EAF, Bhushan Parimoo said that the transfer order leaves hardly any margin to deny or dispute on valid grounds that the extraction of the minor minerals such as sand, bajri and boulders is being carried under the supervision of those who are not competent as per rules to do the job. He said that the rivers, streams and nallahs are subjected to unscientific extraction causing irreparable damage to these fresh water flowing channels which carriers life all along through which they pass. Scientists have been giving warning since long to heed that insatiable appetite for sand is harming the environment, accelerating climate change and even fueling social conflict, he said.
