JAMMU, July 6: A protest dharna was held by the Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) and Soan Kashmir Front (SKF) J&K here today at Jagti township Nagrota. Addressing the protesters, JTC-SKF president, Shadi Lal Pandita said that they have been protesting for the last more than nine months but their demands are not being met till today. Pandita said that the Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) have been living in exile for 31 years due to militancy.
He demanded that the government should resettle the exiled KPs in Kashmir valley which is their motherland. He also demanded increase in the monthly cash relief of relief holders from Rs 13,000 to Rs 25,000 per family per month and employment to the households where there are no government jobs in the families for which a package of 20,000 jobs should be announced. Out of 20,000 posts 5,000 Class 4th posts should be given to unemployed youth who have passed matriculation and then later they could not get ahead due to poverty, who do not appear in the merit lists. He also sought compensation for the losses of the properties belonging to KPs. Others who participated in the protest included Raj Kumar Tickoo, Ravinder Koul, M L Razdan, Rakesh Ambardar, Rakesh Tickoo, Sunil Koul, Shuban Ji Raina, Vinod Bhat, Kamal Ji Pandita, Vijay Bakshi, Ram Krishan, S L Kar, O N Raina, Ramesh Suri, Rakesh Koul, Charanjeet Singh, Gurmeet Singh and others. |
