'Theatre made me, my life', says Sanjeev Gupta in Natrang's Theatre Talk Show | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 6: Yet another son of the soil and SNA's Yuva Bismillah Khan Awardee Sanjeev Gupta featured in Natrang's National Theatre Talk Show, 'Young Voices of Theatre' who shared his inspiring journey and motivational thoughts with the global audiences on the facebook page of Natrang Jammu. Born and brought up in Jammu Sanjeev Gupta has done his Bachelor's degree in Music (Classical) from University of Jammu as his mother wanted him to pursue music. For further studies, he went to Punjab University from where he did his Masters in Dramatics. Coming back to Jammu, Sanjeev Gupta directed more than 25 plays like Comedy of Terrors, Ek Tha Gadha Urf Alladad Khan , Lekhak , Byah Ki Dhoom and many more. In an engrossing conversation with Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, actor and Natrang's senior artist Anil Tickoo, Sanjeev interestingly narrated his exciting journey of theatre which humbly started as young artist in Natrang. He was inclined towards the field of theatre three decades back when he was studying in class 11th and used to bunk classes every day to look for theatre avenues. One day while jumping the wall of the school, he saw a poster boldly written 'Are you interested in acting……! Why wait and get late?' . He noted the address on hand and started looking for the place where acting classes were given. Finally landed Natrang headed by Balwant Thakur and his singing skills helped him to make his entry. His mother has helped him in becoming a better singer and his father has always believed that one day he will become an accomplished actor. Sanjeev advocated that theatre has to be rooted in the cultural soil of the region and for this folk is the best medium to turn regional and International entities of theatre. Plays like Ghumayee, Bawa Jitto and Mahabhoj have impacted the theatre of the country and all has been possible because of the rich usage of traditional performing modes. He concluded by saying that theatre made him and his life. |
