Growers' awareness camp organised

JAMMU, July 6: An awareness camp was organised today, at Block Head Quarters Sumb by AGMO Office Samba Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing in collaboration with Block Development Officer Sumb.
Balwan Singh Vice Chairman District Development Council was the chief guest. Apart from Rupali BDO Sumb, Anuj Verma AGMO Samba, Dr. Neerja Senior Scientist KVK Samba, Tehsin Chib AD G&P, Neha Dubey Coordinator NRLM for Samba, Jammu, Ashwani Sharma DLSMS Samba, Charan Kamal Singh Technical PA, Sachin Bali, Chairman BDC Sumb Romesh Singh, Sarpanch Suraj Parkash Verma, Sarpanch Deepmala, Sarpanch Sardar Singh, Jagdev Singh, Mohd Sheikh, Mamta Panchs, Inderjit Singh progressive grower from Gurah Slathia and a number of females and mangoes growers were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering BDO appreciated efforts put in by Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing in organising such programs for growers located at remote & far away places of Samba district.
Anuj Verma AGMO Samba informed mangoes growers to dispatch their produce in diversified markets at Batote, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Kashmir Valley to get good rates, there. AGMO Samba exhorted growers and rural women to also resort to food processing and value addition of their produce, which is usually highly perishable.
The recent example of manufacturing of Amchur out of more than 5 MTs of fallen mangoes by few SHG members and rural processors, which is being sold at a price between ?260 to ?400 per kg should be an eye opener for other Mango growers and rural processors. More number of rural agri entrepreneurs now coming forward for processing of mangoes, amla, curry leaves powder, mushroom. AGMO Samba informed that the department has made two groups of females and farmers of Sumb block, who shall be given special attention for their overall growth with regards to agriculture, agriculture marketing, value addition.
Dr Neerja Sharma Senior Scientist KVK Samba asked females of Sumb block to use their ideal time in doing food processing which will not only enhance their income but also shall bring more respect & dignity in the society.
Tehsin Chib AD G&P also addressed the gathering and asked growers to make Sumb Brand of their produce and go for muti cropping. Chib also asked the SHG members to take benefit of PMFME ODOP scheme and set up their start ups.
