Unemployment on rise in Jammu
7/7/2021 1:25:22 AM
The growing unemployment in Jammu region is emerging as a major cause of concern for the right thinking people of the society.
People are worried about the future of youth, who in absence of employment opportunities are taking refuge in criminal acts and drugs. The Jammu and Kashmir Government has made several announcements during the past two years about providing employment to the youth. But these claims are yet to be translated into a reality.
When J&K was turned into a union territory on August 5, 2019, the then Governor, Satya Pal Malik had announced that 50,000 youth will be provided with the jobs. Nearly two years after Malik’s announcement, the J & K Government stated that 18000 posts have been announced and the recruitment process is on. Out of 50,000 posts only 18000 have been advertised, the promise of employing 50,000 youth seems to have been forgotten and life is moving on.
The J&K administration is aware of the fact that every industry has taken a hit due to COVID-19 despite that it has taken many such decisions that have hurt a common man in Jammu region. The helmsmen seem to be in a hurry, they want to implement all the orders in a jiffy.
They need to change their attitude and think with a human heart.
Recently, a few groups staged a sit-in Jammu city to seek separate statehood for the Jammu region but the participants were of the opinion that unless employment avenues are created nothing would change.
They expressed concern over highly educated youth sitting idle and having no idea about what the future holds for them. Many of them said that providing jobs should be the government’s priority.
When the Article 370 was revoked people were hoping that the discrimination with Jammu region would end, but many things have happened contrary to their expectations. The government needs to address the aspirations of Jammu people, who haven’t got their share for the past 70-years.
People of this region want the government to create avenues for them, provide them with basic amenities and other necessities of life. They are still to reap the benefits of J&K turning into a union territory.
Rule of Kashmir centric leaders has ended but the hegemony of the helmsmen is pushing the people of Jammu to edge. They need to show some concern towards the nationalist people of Jammu region.
