7/9/2021 10:44:38 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, July 9: Jammu and Kashmir Sikh Council on Thursday submitted a memorandum carrying charter of demands to the Delimitation Commission in Jammu.
The delegation of J&K Sikh Council led by its Convener Harasis Singh accompanied by other senior members including Tejinder Singh, Devinder Singh, Manmohan Singh, and Davinder Singh presented 3- page representation to the visiting delimitation commission. Earlier the Council had received an invitation from the office of Chief Electoral Officer, J&K UT for the meeting with the commission.
Harasis Singh, the Convener of the organization informed that besides other demands the main issue highlighted in their memorandum includes seeking 4 to 5 Legislative assembly seats exclusively for the Sikh Community to undo injustice that is being done with the community in J&K for the last over 70 years. The memorandum reads “Sikh Community of J & K feel deprived of the democratic rights, on political aspect we feel brutally discriminated by successive governments because in the last over 70 years since independence of India and integration of J&K with India, there remained no or negligible representation of Sikh Community in the government and Legislative Assembly of J&K” .
In its written submission to the Delimitation Commission, the Sikh Council also requested the commission that before drafting the final report, the commission may consider district wise visit of all areas of Jammu and Kashmir and do not deem Srinagar and Jammu districts as whole J&K though the council also appreciate that the commission took the initiative in reaching the people at Pahalgam and Kishtwar districts.
In its demands, the Sikh Council also asked the commission to publicize its dedicated online portal, email id and postal address so that those people and groups who could not meet them in Jammu or Srinagar may submit their written representation regarding delimitation of Legislative Assembly seats.
