Playwright/Director Ranhang Choudhury features in Natrang’s Theatre Talk Show | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 9: Natrang’s National Theatre Talk Show, ‘Young Voices of Theatre’ featured enthusiastic theatre director and playwright from Assam, Ranhang Choudhury today who shared his inspirational thoughts with the global audience at the Facebook page of Natrang Jammu. Young theatre director and playwright from Assam, Ranhang Choudhury, a science graduate of Guwahati University is associated with drama and mime from his early childhood. His tremendous creations ‘Nokiyampo’, ‘Antaheen Ek Jatra’, ‘Mukobodhir: Fate in fallacy’, ‘Prof. Kelfa’s Factory’, ‘Comfort Women: An Untold History’ and lastly ‘Tritiyo’ etc. are examples of his best research work. He has received formal training in theatre from leading playwright and theatre director Baharul Islam and Bhagirathi. In an interesting conversation with Natrang’s senior artist Neeraj Kant, Ranhang narrated his journey of theatre. Inspired by the mobile theatre of Assam, Ranhang believes that before going in front of the audience, one must be well prepared and well trained. Having a great reverence for folk arts, he opines that folk elements may be used in performances but one shall never tamper the texture of the folk elements. Being a combination of a director and a playwright, Ranhang writes performance-based plays and dedicates the space for sets and props according to his own comfort and the need of the play. So, he believes that it's nice to be a playwright and director both. In his unique concept of theatre for tourism, he used to perform at the tourists destinations, involving local folk artists and using folk elements and making people aware about the theatrical traditions of the region. He regularly works with children by arranging theatre workshops and developing awareness among the children and their parents. He believes in performing plays with a message and unique substance which helps in audience building. In a message to the youth and new aspirants, he suggests to do whatever they want to be but don’t do theatre for the sake of becoming a film or TV actor, rather do it to develop your overall personality and above all for becoming a good human being.
