Srinagar, July 9: Security forces on Friday arrested a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant along with arms and ammunition, including a pistol, in north Kashmir district of Bandipora. A police official said that following specific information about movement of militants, a joint checkpoint was established at Gundjahangir area of Hajin in Bandpora by police, 13 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 45th battalion of CRPF. “The security forces deployed at the checkpoint noticed a suspicious person,” he said, adding the man was tactfully apprehended. He said the accused was later identified as Muzammil Sheikh, alias Abu Maviya, a resident of Chandergeer in Hajin. “Incriminating material, including a Chinese pistol, live rounds and other ammunition, was recovered from his possession,” he said. He said Sheikh had joined proscribed militant outfit LeT recently and was tasked to carry out subversive activities in and around Hajin town. “In this connection, FIR under relevant sections of law has been registered in police station Hajin and further investigation has been initiated,” he added. |
