JAMMU, July 9: "Every drop counts. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world." With this in mind, Psychological Counseling Cell and NSS Unit ( Khidmat ) of GDC Vijaypur and Ministry of Education Government of India organized a workshop for students and faculty of the College on "Psychological Support for COVID Pandemic Conditions and COVID Helper Skills" in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education.
The main objective of the workshop was to engage the students of the College in online community services during this pandemic situation raised by COVID-19 and to fulfill the MGNCRE mission of Each One Reach One.
Further, it focuses on enabling the students to become Covid Helpers and to provide support for the Covid-19 affected people in their areas. It will not only empower them to help distressed people in this pandemic situation but it will also make them a trainer to tackle the various problems arising due to Covid-19 Pandemic and the skills acquired by them to work together to fight against Covid-19 and use the skill of empathy while doing community service.
Neha Dagar represented MGNCRE as resource person. The workshop constituted of two sessions - Training Session and Interactive Session. In the Training Session, she shared a no. of Covid Helper Skills with students of the College to instill interest and concern among the students about the dynamics of the present pandemic; to develop community based learning in order to identify and respond to community needs. She dealt with multiple perspectives of problem solving to foster students' intellectual capability and service instinct. In the interactive session, the students participated and interacted in the workshop very enthusiastically and took a pledge to help the needy persons in this pandemic condition by providing the necessary help and services.
The workshop was organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College. She exhorted that "Psychological support by youth is a remarkable approach not only towards defeating the pandemic but also towards instilling the qualities of leadership, decision making, community service and brotherhood amongst them.
Caring for others is important and Covid-19 has taught us the same. "The whole programme was coordinated by Dr. Shittal Sharma (Convener, Psychological Counseling Cell) and Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch (NSS Programme Officer).
