Taking Covid casually | | | As the COVID-19 cases are on decline in Jammu and Kashmir, people have once again started to take the things casu ally. They have started believing that the pandemic is over and they have nothing to fear for. Experts and medicos have been predicting that there is a possibility of a third wave breaking out and it could be more deadly than the first two waves. The diminishing effects of the second wave have led to violation of COVID-19 norms across the Union Territory. Not many people are seen wearing masks, nor is social distancing norm being followed in letter and spirit at most of the places. Such behavior poses a serious threat of Covid raising its ugly head again and hitting the people hard. Crowding the markets, health resorts and marriage ceremonies without wearing masks and no regard for social distance is unsolicited and unbecoming behavior. People need to realize that in the interest and safety of our families and society, they have to act responsibly in every domain of life and social interaction. People have to go out to attend to their needs but strict adherence to Covid Appropriate Behavior is needed to keep the virus at bay. It’s high time for the people to give up vaccine hesitancy as the COVID-19 jab is a strong tool to fight the pandemic. During the past three months health workers have done a commendable job by reaching out to far-flung areas to carry out the vaccination drives. The vaccinations are a shield and a way forward to develop herd immunity. People cannot shy away from it. More than Jammu, the government may face problems in Kashmir where the wedding season has commenced and people are relishing Wazwan at the fat weddings. The guest control order seems to have been thrown to winds. If the people don’t restrict their guest list these events could become super spreaders. The warnings of a possible third wave shouldn’t be taken lightly. Past experiences are enough to prove that the COVID is contagious and spreads at a rapid pace. When the second wave had hit the country, hospitals were unable to accommodate the rush and many people died within their homes. Precaution is better than cure. We have to maintain Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) for our own safety. Taking things casually won’t help anyone’s cause. We have to remain prepared to tackle the predicted third wave that can hit anytime. |
