Man dies after retaining wall of newly constructed GMC Hospital Rajouri collapses | | | Ankit Kessar Early Times Report
Rajouri, July 11: In a shocking incident, a man died when a portion of retaining wall of newly constructed building of Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Rajouri collapsed and fell on him. The same has exposed the Public Works Department for showing its casual approach in its construction, which led to such a tragic happening. The deceased has been identified as Karam Singh (65) son of Gurmat Singh resident of Mera Nagrota Rajouri, was passing through, along with his horse. A big question mark hangs over the role of the department as well as the contractor, who was given the contract for carrying out such sub standard work, who proved fatal. As soon as the incident took place, the rescue operation was launched by the authorities with the help of the army and the body was pulled out from the debris. “After seeing the quality of the retaining wall, the quality of work and material used in construction of the hospital building can be well imagined and there is every chance that the same incident can happen with the building which can be proved more fatal than this,” the locals alleged. The locals alleged that gross corruption has taken place in the construction of the GMC Rajouri building and the concerned officials along with the contractor should be arrested immediately and a high level probe should be held in this incident. “The inspection of the entire hospital building should be conducted as there have been reports of cracks developed in portions of the building as substandard building has allegedly been used in its construction,” they demanded. Tehsildar Rajouri & other representative of district administration said that detailed inquiry into this incident will be held and appropriate action will be taken against all those found guilty.
