Kashmir, Jammu have separate issues, Farooq on NC’s proposals to Delimitation panel | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 11: Amid criticism that NC’s proposal to Delimitation Commission in Jammu echoed the BJP demands in framing a new criterion to delimit constituencies, party president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said that the issue confronted by the people of the two divisions of the Union Territory were different from each other. “Why are you worried? There is no need to worry. Jammu has separate issues, while Kashmir has separate issues,” an angry Dr Abdullah, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) from Srinagar, told reporters when asked about the criticism faced by his party from other mainstream political parties over NC’s proposal to Delimitation Commission echoing BJP demands. Dr Abdullah was talking to reporters after paying floral tributes to his mother Begam Akbar Jehan at her tomb on the occasion of her 21st death anniversary About whether the increasing dominance of Taliban in Afghanistan will have any impact on Kashmir, Dr Abdullah said that he will pray to God to bring peace to that country. “Afghanistan is a separate country. I pray to God to bring peace to that country. And do what is best for the people living in Afghanistan. I can’t say anything more than that,” he added. Meanwhile, the NC president refused to answer a question about the summoning of the mother of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and wife of former Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed by Enforcement Directorate (ED). “NC has already issued a statement about it and there is nothing more to say,” he added. Earlier, Dr Farooq, his son and former chief minister Omar Abdullah besides other party functionaries offered Fatiha at the tomb of Begam Akbar Jehan, the wife of NC founder Sheilk Mohammad Abdullah, at Naseem Bagh, Hazratbal.
