HBCS demands political reservation for Buddhists of Kishtwar
7/13/2021 11:32:56 PM

Early Times Report
KISHTWAR, July 13: Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Society (HBCS) J&K congratulated the Prime Minister as well as the Delimitation Commission for taking up the task of bringing evenhandedness to every section of people in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press statement Dr Nawang Tundup, General Secretary HBCS, said the during the recent visit of the Delimitation Commission in J&K, the Society was unable to meet it to put its genuine demands in front of the Commission added that they strongly demand to rotate the existing reserved assembly seat exclusively for the Buddhist representation in District Kishtwar and special provisions for the Buddhist minorities' 'Bot' tribe of J&K who belongs to Schedule Tribe communities to represent as only one Sarpanch is the elected public representative among the community.
He said that this section of people has been neglected, adding that because of no political representation in J&K they are treated as a son of step mother in J&K government with no relaxation in height and chest in Belt Force as given to other 'Bot' Tribe in India, no reservation in higher education institutions, no provision/schemes to preserve, promote and develop this community.
Dr Tundup further urged that if the genuine demands can't be fulfilled by the J&K government then merge the Paddar Sub division of Kishtwar District with Ladakh with whom they are religiously, culturally and mentally attached since their existence before delimitation.
