Director Natrang, Balwant Thakur informed that this talk show has featured highly acclaimed young voices of theatre spread across the country who have earned a distinctive name for themselves with their outstanding contribution in the field of contemporary Indian Theatre and this effort of Natrang has been successful in creating a dialogue about theatre even during corona crisis. Santanu Das is one of those modern theatre practitioners who have been trying to find out a new theatrical language as much as possible. He has obtained PG Diploma in Dramatics from National School of Drama, New Delhi. Presently he is working at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata as Associate Professor in the Department of Drama. He started his career as director and designer in 1990 with the play 'Atha Dar Pal Katha'. In an enriching conversation with Natrang's senior artist Neeraj Kant, Santanu narrated his eventful journey of theatre which started in his childhood. During a workshop in Kolkata, he got a chance to interact with the doyens of theatre like Rudraprasad Sengupta, Niranjan Goswami and more and he came to know about the vastness of theatre and made his mind to learn more, so Santanu joined Rabinra Bharti University, did graduation in theatre arts while doing plays with the local theatre group. After graduation, he joined NSD with a definite vision to learn theatre direction & design only. Santanu always wanted to work in his region and never aspired to move to Mumbai. He has done a great volume of work with children in Tripura with the motive to develop a thrust amongst them regarding theatre. He believes that there should be an NSD in every State of the country as one NSD is not enough to cater to the needs of the theatre aspirants in the country. For new theatre aspirants, he suggests that first of all ask yourself why you want to do theatre, what is your motive, decide it first and then make your mind and do it. Moreover, while getting training, be focused and honest. |
