Former MLC visits flash flood affected villages, takes stock of situation | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, July 13: To take stock of situation erupted due to recent flash floods Senior Congress leader and former MLC Subash Gupta visited flood hit area of Panchayat Chak Chabbey where land measuring hundreds of Kanals and standing crop has been washed away,. Several other senior Congress leaders including Devinder Singh Bindu, Vinay Sharma Sarpanch Korepunnu, Satpal Bhagat Sarpanch Chak Chabbey, Parveen Bhagat Gen Sec DCC, Amarjeet Singh, and Munish Bittu Sharma accompanied Subash Gupta during the visit. Gupta after making tour of the affected area and having interaction with the villagers said that the village had witnessed the worse flood after flash flood of year 1988. He said that the protection wall created by the government across the bank of river Ujh had been breached at five points, from the flood water not only washed away agricultural land but had also affected many houses situated in villages Chak Chabbey, Thangdevpura Rampur, Kandhwal, Salalpur, and Korepunnu. Castigating government as well district administration for not giving a heed to the demand of adopting proper safety measures to protect land from floods, Subash Gupta said that every year administration convene meeting regarding implementation of anti-flood measures for the year. He emphasized the need of everyone associated in the task of implementation of anti flood measures to work with dedication and sincerity so that the life and property of inhabitants of flood prone areas guarded. Subash Gupta further said that local Sarpanches had told him that until now, the Ujh River had swallowed hundreds' of acre land of the poor farmers. Last year during the monsoon season, also the river carried away fertile land with him. He also stressed upon the flood control department for immediate restoration of damaged protection walls so that any further loss to the property, crop, and agriculture land could avert. Gupta also requested LG Manoj Sinha to provide all sorts of help to the restore the damaged infrastructure and to access the loss of crops and residential houses, so that the financial assistance to the affected families could provide without any further delay. He also assured of taking up all the genuine demands raised by the public with concerned authority for their early redressal. |
