Srinagar, July 14: Life returned to normal on Wednesday after remaining affected due to strike and restrictions on July 13 martyrs day in downtown Srinagar. The authorities had closed all roads leading to ?Mazaar-e-Shoudah? at Khawaja Bazar in the downtown to prevent any assembly there. Meanwhile, life was affected due to strike elsewhere in the downtown, including historic Jamia Masajid, as on July 13, 1931, twenty-two Kashmiris were killed in firing by police during Dogra rule outside the central Jail, Srinagar. Majority mainstream political parties, including National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were denied permission to offer Fateha and pay tributes to martyrs at Mazaar-e-Shoudah. However, the political parties organized functions at their party headquarters to pay homage to martyrs. Shops and business establishments reopened this morning in the Khawaja Bazar and adjoining areas after security forces lifted restrictions and other road blocks. Traffic was also plying normally on all routes, including Rangar stop, Gojwara and Nowhatta. The Jamia market was also reopen after remaining closed yesterday. However, congregational prayers remained suspended in the historic worship place due to Covid restrictions. Business and other activities also resumed in the entire downtown, including Nallahmar road. There was partial strike in the civil lines Srinagar. For the second consecutive year, no official or unofficial function was organized at Mazaar-e-Shoudah after Union Territory (UT) administration cancelled official holiday on July 13. The successive governments used to organize official functions every year on July 13 at the graveyard since 1948.
