Independent Corporators demand special package for improvement of city drainage system

JAMMU, July 14: Independent Corporators of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) have demanded a special package for the improvement of city drainage system.
Addressing media persons, the Corporators underlined the havoc created by recent rains in various parts of Jammu city including Kalika colony, Nanak Nagar, Gangyal, Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Vikram Chowk, Rajeev Nagar, Chhanni Rama, Preet Nagar, Digiana, Gadigarh, Jeevan Nagar, Talab tillo, Bhagwati Nagar and other parts of city.
The flood water entered the houses of Nanak Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Gangyal Bahu Fort etc. About 10 houses were damaged at Kalika colony Bahu Fort Jammu. Same type of flood occurred at Kalika colony on 26th August 2020 estimates were prepared well in time but work could not be started in time.
They raised the issue of lack of funding to JMC and demanded to grant additional funds to reconstruct the Nallah and to improve drainage system of Jammu city.
They also demanded a special package for improving the drainage system, construction of Nallah and financial help to the people who suffered due to floods.
All independent corporators criticised the JMC for not taking timely and prompt action regarding de-silting of nallahs and non-commercial serious approach to reconstruct nallahs, no serious approach towards sanitation of city.
Those who addressed press conference included Sham Lal Basson, Ashok Singh Manhas, Prof Yudhvir Singh, Sucha Singh, Inder Singh Sudan, Sandhya Gupta, Anita Sharma, Amit Gupta and Jagdish Raj Sharma.
